SUMMER
2005 - After seven years of making it work with my boyfriend from
Cyprus (whom I met while he was studying in my hometown of New York
City), finally it seems that we have exhausted all of our possible
options which have enabled us to stay together so far. We have played
by the rules for so long. Rules that tell us because we are a same-sex
bi-national couple we cannot support one another to stay legally in
either country - like any heterosexual couple have the right to do.
We have tried going back and forth from continent to continent, leaving
every three months in order to satisfy the 90 day allowance we are
permitted to stay on foreign soil. We have tried applying for all
types of jobs in hope that we would gain work visas. We have taken
loans to go to university in each other’s homeland. If you name
it, we have probably done it.
MAY
2006 - So, after seven years, we finally called it quits and are now
coming up on our first anniversary of a full year apart; torn by hypocrisy,
prejudice and ignorance. Thanks Uncle Sam!

This
is the 'sentimental' story of Vince and his foreign boyfriend that
like the CY lesbian story, cannot fulfill their dreams of living
together in the USA legally as man and wife (which one is what?)
with the same recognition than the rest of the normal segment of
the population: couples that are married an live and form a family
under the protection of the legal system and accepted moral standards
of our society. Who is to blame for the 'cruel' separation?
Well, old Uncle Sam is to blame for his hipocritical, ignorant and
prejudicial attitude toward loving birds of the same sex.
A dart for the Host of this webpage: What does this story have to
do with the obvious objectives of this website? Can homosexual suffering
caused by self- imposed separation be compared with the stories
and sacrifices of freedom-loving people risking possesions and life
to escape tyranical governments with the goal of starting a new
life in this blessed land of Liberty and Justice?
